As you probably know, Orlando is full of great attractions and activities that can make your vacation memorable. However, there are also some great historic landmarks in Orlando that should not be missed. Take a look at some favorites below.
Orange County Regional History Center
A great place to start your tour of Orlando landmarks is the Orange County Regional History Center, housed in the historic courthouse in downtown Orlando. Inside you will find four separate floors of exhibits that cover more than 12,000 years of Central Florida’s history. You’ll enjoy many exhibits, family programs, and many other great activities while discovering the area’s interesting and vibrant history
Basilica of the National Shrine of Mary, Queen of the Universe
At this 2,000 seat, majestically lit church and chapel, you will find a beautiful basilica that was built to service the large number of Catholic visitors to the Orlando area. It was built after the opening of Walt Disney World, when the Diocese of Orlando decided that the Catholics visiting the area need a place of worship. The entre shrine consists of the main church, the Mother and Child Outdoor Chapel, the Rosary Garden, the Blessed Sacrament Chapel, and a gift shop.
Berlin Wall Segment
A very interesting piece of history is located in a rather unusual spot in Orlando. You’ll find a piece of the Berlin Wall located behind the Hard Rock Café. You can visit this piece of history, and also enjoy a meal and a cocktail or two at the Café. It’s a great way to experience one of the world’s historic moments.
Bob Carr Performing Arts Centre
This venue has been a centerpiece for performing arts and entertainment since 1926. It was renamed after Bob Carr, former Orlando mayor in the 1970s. Currently, it is home to the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra and the Orlando Opera. It also plays hosts to many different shows and events.
Church Street Station
Previously the Church Street Station was a station for the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad. Now it is an active entertainment venue. You can travel back in time with a visit to this historic rail station turned active entertainment site.
